Three Times the Bands, Three Times the Fun

First up...Hemstad.
Got some promos from Catbird Records recently, and this was a surprise for me. I was most excited about Tap Tap's Lanzafame and Maestro Echoplex's Last Night I Saw God on the Dancefloor, but this one ended up finding the most play time here at SKwS. The other two are excellent, that's just a testament to how much I love this band. From Sweden (like all good bands these days), they sound a whole lot like The Go! Team, but less hip-hop influenced, more psychedelic, and nearly completely free of vocals. This mos def needs a listen:

Fyllekärring {(SKwS Top Track)}
Partrik Sjöberg (SKwS Recommended Track)

Theirspace.
Buy from, by far, the coolest record label ever.

Next up, The Little Ones.
While their artwork may resemble The Shins, their sound doesn't really, a whole lot. Well maybe a little. Recently signed to Astralwerks, they land somewhere between tour mates French Kicks and feel-good indie psych-pop. They've got the nice melodies, but there's a little bit of that semi-garage (but not really) feel that French Kicks have. Mp3s after the tour listing...

Man do I wish I was in the UK. What a show that would be, with my Boys and The Little 'Uns.

Lovers Who Uncover (SKwS Recommended Track)

Lastly, some old covers by TVotR, a band whose new album I am finally coming around to. I know, I know - you've had seven epiphanies since you first heard the album in July. I'm sorry. I still think the vocals were better on their earlier stuff, but I've gotten past that and am loving the beats.

Modern Romance (YYYs cover)
Mister Grieves (Pixies cover)

One last thing - check out Pitchfork's bit about the Nurse with Wound reissue. Has this year been kicking ass when it comes to reissues or what? The Pavement reissue, Sebadoh's III, Psychocandy, etc. - and now this. Wowee Zowee.

Webdings are funny, but Symbol is high-larious.

I am using firefox and Mac OSX. Site looks pretty good. I like the light/dark green text thing.

Here's some constructive crit: I find the center-justified pics a little awkward. I would also use a slightly darker gray for the body text (to make reading a bit easier on the eyes).

Rock.
